What we will cover today in this podcast:
- Why it is important to know yourself
- Strengths
- Spiritual Gifts
- Natural Abilities
- Personality
We in leadership need to understand ourselves. It’s probably more important than understanding what followers. Effective leadership is a combination of the leader, the followers, and the situation. When we think of who we are, I always look at it as a combination of personal strengths, spiritual gifts, natural abilities and our own personality. In this podcast I explore the different ways that we can understand each of these four dynamics.
Paul had this in mind in Romans 12:3 –“For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
I mention a number of assessment tools in the podcast this week:
- StrengthsFinder 2.0
- Myers – Briggs Test
- DISC Test
You can find each of these tests yourselves by Googling the test and finding them.
The key NT verses on spiritual gifts:
- Romans 12:6 ? 8?? (Prophesy, serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leadership and mercy)
- I Corinthians 12:1-11, 27-30? (wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophesy, distinguishing of spirits, speaking in tongues, interpreting of tongues, helps and administration)
- Ephesians 4:8-13 (Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers)
- Hebrews 2:4 (No list, just mention that God distributed gifts to his followers)
No One is Youer Than You!
As the great philosopher Dr. Seuss said, ??No one is youer than you.?? You are uniquely a combination of your Personality, natural abilities, strengths and spiritual gifts.? God made only one of you and then He tossed the mold.
In leadership, we can leverage that to our greatest advantage by knowing who we are so that we 1) choose the right situation in which to serve and 2) surround ourselves with people who will compliment us.
